About G. A. Blake

Inevitably, writers draw on their own family history. I am no different. Amongst other genres, I write historical fiction, currently the Burning Tree series, a family saga set between Madagascar and across occupied Europe in the 1940s. It follows three sisters through colonial displacement, resistance, and the long aftermath of war.

The series is, in a way, a testament to my own family. They were people who lived through the Second World War and carried its effects for the rest of their lives, in ways I have never had to. I didn't live what they lived. Writing this series is my way of trying to understand it, and to make sure it isn't forgotten.

Under the name George A. Blake, I also write for younger readers. Pimplewart is about a boy who doesn't quite fit the shape he's been handed: This is one of a series of musings I've compiled about people finding their place in the world, however long that takes.
